The first Simonian I ever really saw was Fleshy Pink Room. (see below)
It has a marvelous sense of space. At the same time, the elements that define the space are quite beautifully painted. So I looked at the scarf on the back of the couch in the foreground, rested on the vase of flowers, raced to the window at the back of the room and flew out of it. And then as if drunk, I reeled back past the scarf to where I stood. Magic.
When I asked Judy to show some sketches, I hoped they would reveal her secret formula.
Nope.
I see the magic—but not how it is achieved.
