Sketchbook # 29: Judith Linhares

 

A few weeks ago at Linhares’ show at PPOW, I was looking at recent still lives and wondered if she sketched and miraculously she appeared in the gallery and I was able to ask her. She does and I think she said she has never shown them. She keeps them in a drawer (see above.)

Here is how Linhares describes making the drawings:
“I like to spend periods of time making small gouache paintings in an uncensored and spontaneous manner. It is a way for me to be in touch with a flow of images and to experiment with color and narrative possibilities. Sweeping, digging, dancing, sleeping…”

(Also, I think it would be fun to live in her joyful world.)
